Ethical Issues in Trials within Cohorts. November 7, 2016. This was a keynote at the 2nd international symposium on Trials within Cohorts (TwiCs) in London, UK. Although I touch on 'standard of care' RCTs, this is primarily an ethical analysis of a novel pragmatic design called 'Trials within Cohorts' which combines a cohort design with post-randomization consent for trials within those cohorts.

Physician Assisted Death of Non-Terminally Ill Psychiatric Patients. September 12, 2016. A talk given as part of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute Seminar Series. A data-based overview of the practice of euthanasia of the mentally ill in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Testimony, Canadian Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs. May 11, 2016. The session in which I participated begins around 16:30. I was one of three witnesses. My testimony begins at approximately 16:38 with a personal statement. Most of the hour is taken up by a Dr. Derryk Smith, a psychiatrist from Dignity in Dying Canada. I do provide a closing set of comments at 17:26, as a counterbalance to some of the assertions made by Smith during the hour.
