The NFL has adopted a new proposal to amend side kick regulations. The NFL's competition committee has two amendments which directly relate to onside kicks. If the kick starts by the defensive side the offensive team would require a wait of 2 seconds before they could recover. If the play is initiated from the offensive end the clock will be triggered and the team will need wait for four seconds before taking advantage of the chance to recover. This can cause some issues on special teamsbecause certain teams might try to throw the ball the hardest they could to pass it by the punter. This new rule will hinder these kinds of plays to happen. But, it could also be applied to defenses to slow the pace of play.
The third rule centers on the offensive team trying to get the ball in the target zone. If the ball is moved less than 10 yards either way after being kicked, it won't be handled by the opposing team. Teams can run more than 10 yards per game with the ball within this area however it will never be touched by opposing team. Thus, this rule could hinder teams from using running backs who are faster or even receivers in their efforts to kick the ball towards the goal zone.
The fourth rule change allows for more kickoffs during games. At present, there are seven kicks that can be played during a game. However, 2021's FIFA World Cup regulations are likely to alter the number of kickoffs during a game. This means there are more kickoffs within the game, which will mean more scoring opportunities for the team who wins.
The fifth rule allows the high-bounce kicked off field goal. It is when the high-bounce kickoff of an attempt to score a field goal occurs due to the fact that the ball was struck by force that was directed towards the other side from the target. It is considered a foul. Additionally, if the violation is allowed the high-bounce kick that is permitted by each team.
The sixth rule to be implemented during the 2021 World Cup will focus on the starting position. The current starting lineup of players for both teams can begin from the same position. The position of the starting players is set to shift, however. Officials are working on making the starters take different positions for offense and defense. This will give players an understanding of the best places to be in the field at any time. This can also prevent the game's start from being delayed due to disagreements between the players who are starting.
