I am passionate about many things, especially fly fishing, cycling, and foraging for morels. Two passions, in particular, have grabbed me in recent years.
The first is to restore prairie, oak savanna, wetlands, and cold-water streams in the Driftless Region of Southwest Wisconsin. I am deeply committed to working to preserve and manage these exceptionally diverse and beautiful spaces.
The second is Contemporary African Art, in which I find so much energy, creativity, beauty, and vision. With Sara Guyer, we have a collection that includes works by Aboudia, Valerie Asiimwe Amani, ruby onyinyechi amanze, Patrick Bongoy, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Chéri Cherin, Salim Currimjee, Omar Victor Diop, Nonkululeko Dube, Samuel Fosso, François-Xavier Gbré, Yo-Yo Gonthier, Nelly Guambe, Alfredo Jaar, Cyrus Kabiru, Bonolo Kavula, Gonçalo Mabunda, Turiya Magadlela, Vincent Michéa, JP Mika, Cheikh Ndiaye, Mame-Diarra Niang, Motlhoki Nono, Jo Ractliffe, Chéri Samba, Usha Seejarim, Yinka Shonibare, Malick Sidibé, Sonlé Sory, Barthélémy Toguo, Tshibumba, and Yéanzi.
In addition to our personal collection, we also helped to launch the Contemporary African Art Initiative at the Chazen Museum of Art.
