Scotland is world-renowned for its traditional music also referred to as folk music.
Even though the origin of Scottish folk music is unclear, there is evidence that there was a flourishing culture of popular music in Scotland during the late Middle Ages using instruments such as bagpipes and clarsach (Celtic harp). They remained an oral tradition until they were collected as folk songs in the 18th century.
This type of music decreased in popularity during the middle decades of the 1900s until in the 1960s young musicians rediscovered and made popular many traditional elements of Scottish music.
Nowadays Scottish Bands use many of the same techniques that their bardic ancestors did. These innovative artists usually fuse traditional methods with the latest technology forming remarkable sounds.
