The TOEFL ITP score ranges from 310 to 677 points. Each section is scored separately using a scaled scoring system.

Score Conversion and Scaling

In the TOEFL ITP test, the final score is not calculated simply by counting the number of correct answers. Instead, the test uses a conversion process that transforms raw scores into standardized scaled scores.

First, each section produces a raw score, which is the number of questions answered correctly. For example, if a student answers 35 questions correctly in the Listening section, the raw score is 35. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, so guessing does not reduce the score.

Next, the raw scores are converted into scaled scores using official conversion tables. This process adjusts the scores to account for small differences in difficulty between different versions of the test. Because of this scaling system, scores from different test sessions remain fair and comparable.
