Dr. Anish Koshy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Phonetics at The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. He completed his doctoral and advanced academic research in Linguistics, focusing broadly on grammatical theory, typology, and language documentation. His core research interests encompass Morphosyntax, Typology, and Descriptive Linguistics, with substantial fieldwork and analytical contributions dedicated to Austroasiatic and Tibeto-Burman languages of Northeast India and indigenous speech varieties. Dr. Koshy has published extensively in peer-reviewed national and international linguistic venues, covering diverse structural phenomena such as causativization, pronominal clitics, word-order variation, and poetic/ritual language documentation. In addition to his research contributions, he has mentored numerous postgraduate and doctoral research scholars and actively engaged in academic coordination, workshops, and linguistics pedagogy across premier Indian institutions. At SCONLI-17, his talk will provide critical insights into cross-linguistic structures, syntactic interface, and field-based descriptive linguistics for emerging scholars.

Dr. Deepak Alok is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA, where his doctoral research made pioneering theoretical contributions to understanding the representation of 'speaker' and 'addressee' in the grammar of natural language. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and his B.A. and M.A. in Linguistics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. He has also worked as a Senior Linguist at Panlingua Language Processing LLP, working extensively on language engineering and natural language processing.
Dr. Alok's core research specializations center on Generative Syntax and its interfaces with Semantics and Pragmatics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Computational Linguistics. His empirical research prominently investigates South Asian languages—particularly Magahi and other Eastern Indo-Aryan varieties—focusing on allocutivity/honorific agreement, indexical shift, bare nominals, classifiers, discourse particles, and Universal Dependency treebanks. His work has appeared in leading theoretical and computational linguistic venues, including Glossa: a journal of general linguistics, Syntax, and major NLP conference proceedings. At SCONLI-17, his plenary lecture will provide emerging scholars with cutting-edge theoretical frameworks and formal analytical methods bridging syntactic theory with computational resource development.
