Our research group is growing! On this page you will find information on all our current team members and alumni. Students work with Professor Scoglio on research through multiple mechanisms including: the Valente Center Undergraduate Research Program, the Center for Health and Business, Directed Study, or Professor Scoglio's grant funding.
Dr. Scoglio is a social and psychiatric epidemiologist with a multidisciplinary approach to research and teaching in public health. Her research interests focus broadly on experiences of violence and trauma and associated risk, resilience, health conditions, and social consequences of these experiences. Her recent work has examined changes in mental health and social support over time in survivors of interpersonal violence and how social support may facilitate recovery and favorable mental health outcomes. Her work also highlights structural inequities that put marginalized groups at higher risk for violence exposure and associated negative health and wellbeing outcomes. She currently teaches NAS319 Health Risk and Prevention and NAS318 Global Health Challenges and PSY401 (Directed Study or Psychology Capstone) at Bentley University.
Laksana (Artie) Rachman is a research assistant in the TIGER lab. Laksana previously was a Bentley Valente Center funded Undergraduate Researcher for his work with us. He is currently pursuing a major in Quantitative Economics at Bentley University and is interested in research on sexual violence and trauma.
Ariel Hyunseo Kim, BA, is a research assistant in the TIGER lab. Having studied Neuroscience at Harvard College, she is interested in pursuing research in trauma and resilience, as well as the diagnostic criteria around trauma-related disorders. She is currently in medical school at John Hopkin's School of Medicine. Her work is currently funded by a Bentley Research Council grant.
Aidan is a junior at Bentley pursuing a double major in Computer Information Systems and Sustainability Sciences with minors in History and Business Administrations. As a founder of Bentleys Artificial Intelligence Society, he is passionate about continuing research in AI and sustainable systems/energy. His work with the TIGER lab was funded through the Valente Center.
Aditi Akolkar is a practicum student in the TIGER lab and an MPH student at Brown University, concentrating in epidemiology. With an academic background in psychology, her research interests lie in psychiatric epidemiology, particularly the physical and biological impacts of trauma on populations.
Joss graduated from Bentley in 2025 with a degree in Business Economics and Law with a minor in international relations. He has been involved in both local and student government as well as running the student newspaper. His research interests include the impact of sexual violence in later life and factors involved in healthy aging practices. His work with TIGER was funded by an internal research grant from the Faculty Affairs Committee.
Kelsey graduated from Bentley in 2025 with a degree in Public Policy and minors in Business Studies and Earth, Environment, and Global Sustainability. Her research areas of interest include interpersonal violence and the impact of childhood trauma on health outcomes. She also worked as a Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Educator on campus!
Henry Bourgeois worked with Professor Scoglio through a Directed Study course in Psychology at Bentley. His research has focused on psychological and philosophical perspectives on loneliness and social connection. He is currently pursuing a major in Marketing and a minor in Psychology.
