Welcome to the TIGER (Trauma Inequity Gender Epidemiology Risk/Resilience) Health Research Lab! A new public health research lab within the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences (NAS) at Bentley University. We use epidemiologic, mixed, and qualitative methods to answer complex questions about bolstering resilience, preventing violence and the mental, physical and social health of individuals, groups, and populations exposed to adversity.
We incorporate approaches from multiple disciplines, including public health, psychology, sociology, and biostatistics to examine social drivers of health and pathways to recovery from traumatic events. Historically, we have collaborated with organizational partners to collect or analyze previously collected data focused on specific groups, including survivors of sexual violence, military veterans, healthcare workers, survivors of family violence (childhood maltreatment or intimate partner violence), and resettled refugees. Outcomes of interest in recent projects include: COVID-19 infection and vaccination, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Metabolic Syndrome, social connection, sleep quality and duration, and sexual health and behaviors. Our research streams frequently overlap, and we welcome new ideas and collaborations!
Professor Scoglio and Research Assistant Aditi Akolkar presented a poster at Bentley's Research Showcase on August 28th! This project focuses on social support and its role in vaccine uptake in the US. A book chapter and manuscript are in preparation from this work!
