DOCAT is a popular adaptation of the social doctrine of the Catholic Church, as it has been developed in important documents since Pope Leo XIII. We want to guide our actions by the maxims of truth, justice, and charity that are contained in them. Pope Francis challenges Christians to become openly active in working for greater justice in the world: "A Christian who in these times is not a revolutionary is not a Christian" (DOCAT. 5).
SCL Faith and Justice Monthly Discussion Group
“. . .The family is the fundamental cell of society,
where we learn to live with others
despite our differences and belong to one another”
(Apostolic Exhortation--Evangelii Gaudium--Joy of the Gospel)
2023--Our monthly discussion meetings on the DOCAT are re-building from the pandemic. As we did before the pandemic, we will discuss DOCAT with those interested. Written for youth in a question and answer format, DOCAT is by far an easier read than the original Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church. We are a non-partisan group that discusses social topics affecting families through the lens of our Catholic faith.
Please let us know if you are interested in studying the DOCAT in 2023. We will set up meetings based on availability of those interested either in-person or on Zoom. The parish will provide a free copy of the DOCAT. For more information contact Cathy Griner– cgriner8@sbcglobal.net
SCL Faith and Justice Mission: Our mission is to explore issues that impact families and individuals from the perspective of Catholic social teachings. Jesus is the center of our work and His Gospel message of love guides us as we study His teachings. Besides education and action, prayer and worship are essential to this ministry.
What will you do to follow the call of Pope Francis
to learn to live and belong to each other?
