This is an example of a viral pathogen

  • TMV affects the growth of the plant due to the lack of photosynthesis that can take place in the affected leaves.

Rose black spot

This is an example of a fungal pathogen

  • It affects the growth of the plant as photosynthesis is reduced
  • It is spread in the environment by water or wind
  • It can be treated by using fungicides and/or removing and destroying the affected leaves

Salmonella

This is an example of a bacterial pathogen

  • Spread by bacteria ingested in food
  • Poultry are vaccinated against salmonella to control the spread
  • The bacteria secrete toxins, which can cause fever, cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea
