The MAD (Media And Design) Competition is a competition open to anyone in grades 6-8. It's easy to do and a lot of fun!
Projects
There are 6 different categories in which you can enter:
Digital Movie - make a movie that's 5 minutes or less and edit it real nice
Animation - make an animated feature either with a computer program or with stop-motion techniques
Programming - design an app
Logo & Graphic Design - design next year's Computer Fair logo
3D Design - design and print a 3-Dimensional model
Webpage Design - create an educational website
Teams
Media And Design is friend-friendly. You're allowed to work in teams of up to 3 total. So if you want to collaborate with a friend or two, go for it. If not, feel free to jam by yourself.
Competition
There are 3 levels of competition:
Springhouse - You compete against other kids at SMS. Mr Mahmood will choose the two best projects in each category to move on.
Regional - You get a full day out of school and travel to compete against other schools in our area. The best project in each category moves on.
States - You get another full day out of school to compete against kids all over the state. Winners get $$$ and prestige.

On the dates above my room will be open after school (2:45 - 4:10) for you to work on your project if you want. Attendance is ENTIRELY OPTIONAL! You are not obligated to ever show up ever. You can totally make your project entirely at home if you'd like. But I do have iPads and a few MacBooks for people who'd like to work at school.

Happiness
There are lots of prizes to be won, plus free food and field trips. Everyone who goes always has a great time. Plus it's something you can add to your college applications someday.
Sadness
Unfortunately no copyrighted materials are allowed. This means no popular music, no google images, none of that. Anything you use, whether it's pictures or music or whatever, should be created by you. If this is difficult for you, you can search for uncopyrighted music or images. But things that are created by you are always better.
Creating
Before starting your project, click on the links above and read all the rules and details for each category. Pay careful attention to these rules, as you will be disqualified if your project does not fit the criteria. Check out the official website here
What NOT to do
Don't make a display board unless you are chosen to go to Regionals. Also, there's no need to do the narrative yet either. For now, just make the project. We'll worry about display boards and narratives if you win the SMS competition.
Entering
All you have to do to enter is fill out this form. Make your project and turn this form in with your project. Projects are due to me towards the end of February. Listen to SUNNTV for more info. And remember, choices count.
For the winners
It's time to make a display board. Include the title and some general information about your project. Also include a storyboard/flowchart of how you made your project. Your narrative can be displayed on the board but it also MUST be included in a folder next to your project. Click here to look at examples of past display boards so you can get some ideas of how to make yours. Again, do not make a display board unless you've been notified that you won and you're moving on to Regionals.
