Lesson 2
Step 3 - Tightening Tension

Key Point 1 - Tension takes time to build up so these sections are large and long.
Key Point 2 - Character must almost fail, this builds suspense.

PUNCTUATION AND DIALOGUE
Quotation marks like "Hey Mr Smith," demonstrates when a character is talking in a story. For example -
"My goodness you're such a good writer," beamed Mr Smith. "Thanks sir," said Barney.
HOW TO BAN THE BORING - editing
There are three separate types of editing:
Structural - the way your structure events.
Expression - the way you say what is happening.
Line editing - spelling, punctuation and grammar.

The reason dynamic dialogue and ban the boring link together is because dialogue can often be boring.
Dialogue needs to move the story along, not be boring.
Top Writing Tip - Ban the Boring twice, once after you finish your dialogue to make sure it is all engaging and when you finish your whole story

‘Telling’ is quick but boring.
‘Show’ to convince your reader.
Be specific – focusing on one person or object gives us an instant picture.

WRITING CHALLENGE
Your task is to write me a four sentence short story on one of the following topics:
A robot fighting an alien
An immortal woman talking to a mortal girl
An AI taking control of a building
A robot questioning itself on whether it has emotions or not
THE CHALLENGE IS YOU CANNOT SAY WHAT YOUR TOPIC IS. YOU CAN ONLY DESCRIBE IT SO THAT I KNOW WHAT IT IS. you cannot use the words that are in your topic.
For example - if you are writing about the immortal woman, don't use the word immortal. Show the reader that she is immortal.
