Oxygen Outage

Methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, nonane, and decane: all of these and more will burn in the presence of oxygen. So many chemicals can undergo combustion that diatomic oxygen has become worried for its own safety. Use your knowledge of chemical reactions and stoichiometry to solve this puzzle and to reassure diatomic oxygen of its place in the world.

Making Predictions

Will these reactions occur?

  5. Ba + CaCO₃ →
  6. Co(C₂H₃O₂)₂ + AlCl₃ →
  7. Al + NaF →
  8. ZnF + CuSO₄ →
  9. Ba(NO₂)₂ + NaClO₃ →
  10. Ag + Au₂O₃ →
