Science After Dark is a free community event hosted by the Physical Sciences Department at Suffolk County Community College, giving children and families the opportunity to explore science through fun, hands-on Halloween-themed activities and demonstrations.
As the event continues to grow, your support helps us provide the materials, supplies, and resources needed to create an engaging experience for our young explorers—all while keeping the event free and accessible to the community.
We believe that science should be fun, engaging, and accessible to everyone. Science After Dark gives children and families an opportunity to explore scientific ideas outside of the traditional classroom through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and interactions with SCCC students, faculty, and community partners.
For our student volunteers, the event is also an opportunity to share their enthusiasm for science, apply what they have learned in the classroom, and build confidence communicating science with the public.
By supporting Science After Dark, you are helping us create meaningful opportunities for children to discover, ask questions, and see themselves as scientists, engineers, and lifelong learners.
Donations help provide the materials and resources that make Science After Dark possible, including:
Experiment and demonstration supplies
Hands-on activity and craft materials
Educational and take-home materials
Prizes and giveaways
Supplies for new and expanded activities
Decorations and event materials
Food and refreshments for our student volunteers
Financial donations are just one way to help us make the event possible. You can also support Science After Dark by:
Host a table or activity at the event and share your organization's work with local families.
Help us provide the materials we need by donating items such as food for our volunteers, candy, activity supplies, or decorations.
Join our team and help us create a fun and welcoming experience for our guests.
Science After Dark has grown significantly since its first year. In 2024, we welcomed approximately 300 guests and 50 SCCC student volunteers. In 2025, attendance grew to approximately 800 guests, with 80 SCCC student volunteers and 40 high school volunteers participating.
As we continue to grow, we hope to offer even more hands-on activities, involve more students and community partners, and reach even more children and families.
Your support helps make that possible.
