Science with Coach Hoover

Hello, My name is Zane Hoover. I currently teach AP Environmental Science and Chemistry.

After graduating from Morrow High School in 1989, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, I studied to become a Nuclear Reactor Operator. The Nuclear Power Pipeline is the most rigorous school I have ever attended. I served three years as a Nuclear Reactor Operator aboard the guided missile cruiser, U.S.S. Truxton (CGN-35). During my sea duty, we participated in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield, where we served as the picket ship for the U.S.S. Enterprise during flight ops.

I have visited many countries during and after my Navy time, including Cuba, Columbia, Djibouti, Oman, Australia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Panama, Mexico, the Phillipines, Curacao (Netherlands Antilles), Italy and Costa Rica.

After my enlistment, I briefly worked for a minor league baseball team, the Tacoma Rainiers, as parking facilities manager. While attending Georgia State University to earn my degree in Broad Field Science Education, I worked at Delta Airlines. In 2001 I joined the Union Grove High School faculty. I have coached baseball, volleyball, basketball, football and softball in my time at UGHS.
