Housing and Home Design, Grade 11,Open (HLS3O)

This course introduces students to a range of issues related to housing and home design. Students will learn about the needs that housing fulfils; housing options; home maintenance and safety; and environmental, economic, legal, and social considerations related to housing. They will use the elements and principles of design to analyse design and decorating decisions. Students will develop research skills as they investigate issues related to housing and home design.

Throughout this course, students will:

A3.1 assess various aspects of information gathered from primary and secondary sources (e.g., accuracy, relevance, reliability, inherent values and bias, voice)

Learn360 is an Online Video Library that has more than 9,000 educational videos, P-12 in a variety of subject areas, that can viewed online. Content includes: documentaries from the CBC, National Geographic, A&E, Sunburst, Learning Zone Express, Weston Woods and TV Ontario.

Students: The Online Video Library is a valuable research tool students can use for conducting research and gathering information, great for student projects or assignments! Students can search for videos on a variety of topics and watch them online.

How to:

1. Go to Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board https://www.kprschools.ca/en.html and select Students

2. Navigate to KPR Students Portal from Learning Resources Link

3. Identify and select Virtual Library application (Password: kprlibrary) and choose 9-12 backpack

4. Click on the Streaming Video tab to link to Learn360

A3.2 record and organize information and key ideas using a variety of formats (e.g., notes, graphic organizers, summaries, audio/visual/digital records)

A citation machine is essentially a works cited generator that accesses information from across the web, drawing the relevant information into a fully-formatted bibliography that clearly presents all of the sources that have contributed to your work.

KnightCite is an online citation generator service provided by the Hekman Library of Calvin College. This service simplifies the often tedious task of compiling an accurate bibliography in the appropriate style by formatting the given data on a source into a reliable citation, eliminating the need to memorize minute details of style for multiple kinds of sources.

A3.5 synthesize findings and formulate conclusions (e.g., weigh and connect information to determine the answer to their research question)
