Science Mentoring for Everyone
We believe that every primary school student should have equal opportunities to engage in science in unique ways outside of their regular school curriculum through engaging, hands-on learning activities.
As the world becomes more dependent on technology, careers in science will become even more critical. This is why we want to help build a generation of young scientists by providing indiscriminate access to engaging scientific opportunities that will ultimately encourage them to pursue their curiosity and explore subjects of their interest.
To extend interest and experience in science to all children, we must first introduce them to the fascinating and boundless world of science. To this end, we have developed a universal curriculum guide intended for use anywhere. These lesson plans only require basic, easily obtainable materials for exciting, hands-on experiments. Planned experiments range from the famous elephant's toothpaste demonstration to an out-of-this-world model rocket launching experience that can all be easily replicated in a classroom or home environment. The guide covers everything needed to discuss, conduct, and conclude the experiment and even incorporates a structured slideshow and teaching points designed specifically to be engaging for aspiring scientists. Our curriculum will help jumpstart our effort to expand access engaging scientific experiences to all children by allowing us to reach audiences without operating sessions ourselves. For the in-person session we run in Pittsburgh, we deploy ourselves and our high school student Science Buddies mentors to serve the young scientists.
Our Science Buddies mentors run sessions with engaging and fun experiments, in all scientific disciplines, to welcome interested children to the world of science.
Science Buddies mentors will be constant fixtures in interested children's lives by providing guidance in how to further their involvement in the world of science at the secondary school level and explaining its significance.
Our goal is for access to extracurricular science education to be equitable for all children. Any student with an interest in science should be provided with the tools to succeed: we will support them on their journey in the world of science
