Currently, we are operating in education settings around the Greater Pittsburgh area, such as Sewickley Academy and the Northgate School District, but we are intent on expanding throughout the Western Pennsylvania region. Through your help and support, we can grow as an organization and have a greater impact on students across the country.
In our experiences, we do activities ranging from extracting the genetic material from strawberries to testing the resilience of dropped eggs within landing apparatuses. We try to involve as many fields of science as possible into our curriculum in order to provide interested students with as many opportunities as possible.
As a growing and outreach specialized organization, we appreciate interest from any school or organization/program and will do our best to set up an experience that works for you. However, if we cannot find a time to run a session, please feel free to utilize our lesson plan curriculum, which can be found here.
Science Buddies began as an idea shared between co-founders, Jack Terrell and Alex Wang, to spread interest in science among children regardless of background or given opportunities. From there, we started running experiences in our own school and eventually put together a versatile curriculum guide based on what we learned from months of experiments and discussions. After that, we began reaching out to local schools and organizations specializing in fun learning experiences for children. At the present, we are a long way from our goal of inspiring an entire generation to pursue careers in the critical fields of the sciences, but we are certainly making progress, and it all starts with you.
