Interests:
Dr. Mushahwar's interests are in developing intelligent neural prosthestic devices and innovative rehabilitation interventions for improving function and preventing secondary complications after neural injury or disease. For applications specifically focused on spinal cord injury, Dr. Mushahwar and her team pioneered the use of intraspinal microstimulation for restoring standing and walking, electrical stimulation-assisted arm and leg cycling for improving walking and posture, Smart-e-Pants for preventing pressure ulcers and TheSock for preventing deep vein thrombosis.
