Good Question.....

This is a new program in Anchorage but the model has been around for a long time.   Having a therapist available for students as well as their families so that prevention efforts and treatment can be provided on site is goal of the program.  The School Therapist works alongside the School Counselors and is a fully integrated member of the staff. 

Some of the things a School Therapist might do are:

• Work with the School Counselors

•  Awareness campaigns for mental health

• Prevention education efforts

• Small group and large group presentations

• Case management with outside counseling agencies

• Teacher support and consultation

• Parent education and support

• Crisis Intervention and support

• Provide on site clinical therapy services such as:

  • Individual therapy

  • Family therapy

  • Group therapy
