History of the Preserve

Prior to this piece of land being labeled as a preserve it was relatively untouched due to its inconvenient location.

In 1955 , Scheele Preserve was purchased by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as apart 823 acre purchase pf Kelley's Island land for natural and archaeological reasons. [6]

The Preserve is named after the museum director William Scheele in 1999.[6]

In 2004, Scheele Preserve was expanded by 3.2 by 28 acres in efforts to protect an Alvar Forest. [6]
