SCP-355 represents an enigmatic species that bears an indistinguishable resemblance to ordinary grass when observed with the naked eye. However, its closest known genetic relative is classified as the mahogany taxon. Each blade of SCP-355 contains a hollow core composed of cellulose and buckminsterfullerene, serving the purpose of maintaining the grass's vertical structure. Furthermore, the leaf's veins are enveloped in a similar core, contributing to an exceptionally rigid grass, which possesses enough sharpness on its exterior to penetrate light wood and certain types of plastics. The primary blade is responsible for photosynthesis and the absorption of atmospheric nutrients in the typical manner. Moreover, the root structure of SCP-355 extends unusually deep for a plant of its size, although it otherwise adheres to standard characteristics.
The species appears to have evolved within a low-energy environment, leading to heightened photosynthetic rates under standard Earth atmospheric conditions. This hastens the reproductive cycle, generating and dispersing grass seed roughly every two weeks. This is corroborated by the passive carnivorous behavior akin to sundews or cobra lilies, indicative of nutritionally deficient environments. Unprotected feet that tread upon the grass endure penetration, acid secretion, and fluid drainage. Sharp splinters react to pressure, impeding movement and causing injuries. In containment, controlled lighting and nutrient saturation maintain the species' development.
