SCC ARPSC Resources

Besides the several VHF and UHF voice repeaters in St Clair County (SCC), we have one packet digipeater located in Port Huron Twp. The call is K8EPV and the frequency is 145.070. It is used for BBS mail drop as K8EPV-1 and the digipeater is K8EPV-7. ARPSC Bulletins are posted on the BBS as well as personal messages. It is open to the use of the amateur community. The ARPSC EOC station K8SCC checks this BBS hourly for messages.

Outpost Packet Message Manager software is used at K8SCC for this purpose. A brief description of Outpost and a link to the website is presented below. Outpost will be used by ARES/RACES stations in SCC during Emergency Operations to handle intra- county messaging.

Winlink email service via both VHF and HF are another part of the SCC ARES/RACES communications tool box. Winlink offers the utility of sending emails to the outside world in case of major comm systems are down. Standard emails can be sent and received via the packet radio system, requiring no local connection to internet or phone services. Both Outpost PMM and Winlink are used widely in Amateur Radio Emergency Communications. They are available free of charge and have excellent support teams.

AREDN is our latest project to provide a standalone data network for instantaneous file sharing and other high speed data services via ham radio. It's a work in progress. The ARPSC Digital Group meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 297 Airport Dr.. all are welcome.
