As a member of the Student Government Association, I help out at the canned food drive each year. Volunteering at the drive inspired me to write, film, and edit this segment. My goal was to show the student body the positive impact of their donations and where the collected cans are going.
I created this reel to showcase my moments reporting on camera. When I first joined JNN, I thought I would only be behind the camera. I never could have imagined that I would one day be corresponding on segments. Corresponding has helped me discover my true passion for journalism.
Job Opportunities Segment
This segment highlights the job opportunities the new Top Golf in Ridgeland has brought for students. It was created to encourage students to apply not just at Top Golf, but for any job in the Madison area.
2013 Rush Girls Soccer Team Holds National Ranking Segment
This segment marks the first time I traveled for one of my stories. I went to Foley, Alabama, to report on the Mississippi Rush 2013 Girl Premier Soccer Team, which was ranked #9 nationally at the time through Sync Sports.
How ICE Deportations Affect the Community Segment
One of my most challenging segments covered an ICE raid at the local restaurant, Fernando’s, which had a significant impact. While producing this story, I reached out to many potential interviewees but was often turned away. This segment demonstrates my perseverance and dedication to sharing stories with my community.
Powderpuff Fundraiser Segment
Powderpuff is an annual event organized by the MCHS Beta Club. As a fundraiser for local charities, it raises money by hosting a flag football game. I hope that students who watch this segment will be inspired to participate in or attend the Powderpuff tournament next year to help raise even more money!
I pitched this long-form segment idea to my team one day in class as the end of the first semester approached. While creating the segment with my fellow producers, I learned about the struggles people face daily. Creating this story has inspired me to give back to my community and educate others on the importance of donating food to those in need.
This is one of our more recent episodes of The Central. This episode is particularly special to me because, as a class, we were able to smoothly set up and take down the set for the first time, which relieved a lot of stress when filming.
This is another episode of The Central. I am especially proud of this episode because I finally learned how to properly light the green screen and the news anchors.
