The Mission

**We were able to purchase our first Cot in April 2018. The placement is still pending, but we can confidently say it will be somewhere in New England. We are also working closely with Annabella's Angels, another nonprofit in CT, to place a Caring Cradle at a very special hospital. Details soon!

One of our goals is to purchase and donate Cuddle Cots, in honor of Scarlet, to a area hospitals. Our hope is to help other families facing the tragic loss of their beautiful babies, allowing them the precious gift of time. For those not familiar with the Cuddle Cot, it is an in-room cooling unit that is the size of a small humidifier disguised inside of a Moses basket. Research has shown that having a cot available to parents while they are in the hospital encourages families to spend time with their stillborn baby. Typically, when a baby is born still, the hospital will take the babies to the morgue right away. The Cuddle Cot allows the family to keep their angel in their room for more time. While this might not be for everyone, it does allow families a choice.

We are also lobbying state lawmakers and the CT Hospital Association (CHA) to pass a proposed bill allowing families AT LEAST 24 hours of time before asking them to sign off on authorizations. SB325, AN ACT CONCERNING MATERNAL CHOICE IN THE EVENT OF STILLBIRTH, was unanimously passed and had bipartisan support. Unfortunately, the CHA did not approve of the language. Together with Senator Len Suzio, I have been working with the CHA, to reintroduce the bill in the next Senate session to ensure all CT families, regardless of the hospital or region, get at least 24 hours with their beautiful baby born sleeping.

Lastly, I will working towards becoming a Bereavement Doula this Fall. This will allow me to comfort and support grieving parents before, during and after their stillbirth and loss. I can act as an advocate for families, allowing them more time and uninterrupted grief for the time they are in the hospital. As you can imagine, no one ever expects to be in a position of losing a baby. I would like to be there for mommy's and daddy's (and grandparents and siblings) to help them navigate the process.

Scarlet's Mission wants to give families TIME with their angels and hopefully we can accomplish our goals with your help! Thank you.
