Funding from The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland enabled a Scottish research group led by Prof Kirsty Kiezebrink on behalf of ScAITEN to build upon research funded by the Advance HE Collaborative Development Fund 2023-24. This phase of research focused specifically on Scottish institutions, providing a deeper analysis of the perspectives, challenges and opportunities within Scottish institutions. The project aimed to inform policy and practice in Scotland, ensuring that the integration of GenAI tools in education aligns with the unique needs of Scotland. For further information about the project please see the University of Aberdeen project website.
The findings of the survey and focus groups are presented in the following report.

The Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh Napier and Heriot-Watt were awarded an AdvanceHE Collaborative Development Fund in 2023 grant to conduct research on staff and student perspectives on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in higher education (HE), from January to July 2024. The research aimed to understand what may influence students and staff when deciding to engage, or not, with GenAI tools and how they can be supported to use these tools responsibly, ethically and effectively.
