Because of an illness that struck Gilda at the age of 8, her left leg was amputated in order to save her life. Continuing her life under these conditions, she decided to try road cycling, in which she found a passion and quickly began competing locally. Later on, she competed nationally and finally internationally, currently holding the national title of paracycling road and time trial champion.
