Test Date: Friday, June 8 in C205 (and June 9 if you are taking multiple tests @ South Brunswick Public Library)
Mentoring Sessions: May 18, 25, and June 1
Please fill out this form to sign up for a tryout test and indicate which mentoring session(s) you are planning to attend. You can take more than one test.
Information on each test can be found at the links below:
On the day of tryouts, report to room C205. Be sure to bring anything that you will need, including pencils, a calculator, your cheat sheet, the bridge you built, etc. The written tests will last 90 minutes each. We will be collecting the cheat sheets immediately after the test.
The links above will lead you to specific information regarding each of the tests, such as the events that will be included as well as the topics that will be tested.
This year's written tests will each be broken up into 3 parts. These parts are intended to mimic real Science Olympiad events, so studying for these tests will require you to learn about things related to the overall subject area, but also things relevant to each of the individual events. For each of the written tests, you are allowed to bring one 8.5" x 11" two-sided page of information. The cheat sheet may be typed and you can put anything on it from formulas to diagrams. Be sure to make a good cheat sheet! Your cheat sheet will be collected after the test.
The tests are designed to be difficult, and you are not expected to know all of the topics listed on the information sheets, so just learn as much as you can.
For the building tryout test, you will be required to build a bridge out of popsicle sticks. You will be evaluated on the weight of your bridge, and how much sand your bridge can hold.
Our Resources page contains a few links as well as tips which may be a good starting point as you prepare for these tests.
If you are interested in trying out for the SBHS Science Olympiad team, please complete this google form prior to June 1st with the topics you will be testing in.
Good luck to everyone interested in trying out, and we hope to see you in June!
