Here are just a few of the irresponsible and ill-advised antics of The Sayreville Board of Education*

They have been running this comedy of errors for years at the tax payers' expense.

The last Board of Education meeting revealed that the Sayreville District schools have been languishing with poor standardized test scores across the entire student population.  The results were shared with a lot of fanfare as if they had accomplished something great.  The presentation was obviously meant to try and trick residents into a lulled sense of security.  The opposite happened though.  Their veil was so thin and ridiculous that it was an insult to the intelligence of ANYONE who watched their presentation of these horrendous grades.   

As you can see in the slide from their presentation above:

ONLY 54% 

met standards in Language Arts 

and

ONLY 39% 

met standards in MATH!

These are unacceptable results while this Board spends money on electronic signs and unecessary solar panels that STILL do NOT work!  What have these clowns been doing with our tax money while our kids fail national standards?????  

To make it worse, the Superintendent, Dr. Labby blamed the low scores on the most vulnerable families!!!  He blamed economically challenged and immigrant families dragged down the scores!!  I guess all the rich white kids are just fine??  This is dispicable behavior from someone who is supposed to be the head educator in our town.

VOTE THESE CLOWNS OUT OF OFFICE!

Blunder #1: "Let's get our own buses!"

Most school districts pay a vendor which then supplies the buses, the drivers, the aides, and the fuel and maintenance.

Unfortunately, no one thought far enough ahead to realize that Sayreville doesn't have a place to PARK ALL THESE BUSES!  So now, you the taxpayer are paying to:

1. Buy land and build a bus depot parking lot.

2. Buy or lease many, many buses. The average cost of a school bus is $105,000 to $150,000 EACH!

3.  Advertise for, interview, hire, employ, provide benefits, and manage a whole pool of bus drivers and aides. 

4. Pay for fuel

5. Pay for maintenance

6.  Regtistration and Insurance costs

7. Replace buses approximately every 12 years according to the NJ Office of School Bus Safety.

Blunder #2: "Oops, nowhere to park those buses!

When the Board of Ed decided to buy or lease a hoard of school buses, no one seems to have understood that buses take up a lot of room.  So they tried to create a bus depot on Cheesequake Road.  But that is an eyesore, a big cost, and possible an EPA nightmare.  Better yet, the land was owned by the town as OPEN SPACE!  It was supposed to be kept untouched for environmental and other reasns.  But the Board of Ed decided it was just going to throw a giant parking lot on ot with big yellow buses. So the Sayreville Borough Government said, "No!"  

Blunder #3: "Let's sue our own residents!"

When the Board of Ed decided to take land it really had no right to and the Borough denied it, the Board of Education sued the Borough.  GUESS WHO PAID FOR THAT LAWSUIT... YOU DID!  FOR BOTH SIDES!  A DOUBLE WHAMMY!

Blunder #4: "Solar Power MINUS the Power."

When the Board decided to install rooftop and carport solar panels, they spent a lot of money to do so.  You may have seen the panels.  They're [sarcasm] beautiful (eye roll).   The only problem is, they are still not functional.  That's right.  They aren't soaking up sweet sun juice, aren't powering anything, and they aren't saving you ANY tax dollars.  

Blunder #5: "Just a hot mess."

On June 9, 2024 A rack of ~25 panels caught fire on the roof of Woodrow Wilson Elementary (June 9, 2024), prompting safety questions around the district’s solar rollout. No answer to those questions was ever addressed publically to the voters. 

Blunder #6: "Just A Huge Tax Increase."

As part of the "Cool the Schools" project, the Board of Education caused a 5.23% tax increase to Sayreville residents for 2023–24.  The Borough is limited by state law to an increase of 2%. But the School Board can raise taxes even more without the Mayor or the Town Council's permission.  So your extra tax pain was their fault.  

Blunder #7: "Give us a sign!"

As part of the most recent district budget, the fiscally irresponsible Superintendent added several electronic signs to be placed out front , road-side at the Borough school buildings.  You know, because they need to say, "Have a nice Summer," or "Drive Safely" to the few people who pass by and read the quick flashing messages that are mostly unimportant and could be sent a myriad of different ways in the age of information.  Here's the punchline: They will cost upwards of $100,000 EACH because the electrical hookups have to be trenched from the buildings to the signs and that alone is about aq $75,000 bill EACH. 

Blunder #8: "We don't talk about that."

An historic football hazing scandal happened in under the Board's nose in 2014–2015.  It caused a major division in the community and brought criminal charges.  The season was cancelled. The incumbent PRESIDENT of the current Board, Mrs/ Bloom, was a member of the Board at that time and still has faced no consequence for such a glaring lack of leadership and traumatizing child safety lapses.
