Director’s Note
As the world starts to open back up and return to the normal grind that is life, we have all had time to reflect on a lot of things while the world stood in silence during the “still” pandemic. I just keep thinking about the life journey I have been on so far and am just so happy where I have landed.
A new state, new city, new town, new school, new students, new colleagues, new bosses, and a new space. What was I to expect? I knew that the community was passionate, caring, eager to get the performing arts back off the ground. As I was eager to get back at the helm and steer the ship back into live theatre once again.
When choosing a theatre season for a school there are many variables that go into that thought process. You are thinking about the content of the pieces, the messages that you want to share with your audience, an experience for your students to learn and grow, and of course you want to have fun while doing all of those things.
I am always a sucker for a good comedy. I feel that in our world right now and in high school we need to have more laughter, fun, and enjoy the world for what it is and offers. While I was reading through plays I stumbled upon this great story written by the famous Agatha Christie. I have always wanted to do a murder mystery but what really caught my eye was that this play had been adapted by one of the best comedic playwrights Ken Ludwig.
This was the perfect start to a new beginning. For live theatre to come back, students and colleagues to fill the halls again, and for the theatre to be filled with the families and community to celebrate our students' talents, work and of course to escape from our lives for a few hours and be entertained.
So, I ask you all to sit back, don’t think about what you have to do after this show or even tomorrow morning and just relax, laugh, and be in awe of these amazing students and their hard work!
Enjoy the show!
