1. Making Community Sense of Cali-Baja Environments
Making Community Sense of Cali-Baja Environments is an air quality youth community science collaborative research study. Three different zones - Rosarito, Playas, and Zona Este - were examined for the atmospheric sensor readings of Atmotube monitors. The college students measured the outdoor air quality of their homes by placing the portable sensor outside in a secure place and took readings across four weeks, from March 9, 2024, to April 6, 2024.
I led the session "Measuring the Threat Using Low-Cost Sensors," where I introduced students to various aspects of sensor-based measurement, including how to set up and use the sensors, extract data, and interpret the insights provided by the sensors.
2. Getting Hands-On to Learn About Air Pollution
This hands-on approach allows students to actively participate in learning about air pollution, conducting experiments, and collecting data to better understand the complexities of this important issue. By creating video recordings, students can effectively communicate their findings and engage with their peers, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
In Spring 2024, I had the pleasure of advising a group of first-year undergrads in environmental engineering at SDSU. They made a great video on using low-cost sensors to measure indoor air pollution. Check it out for an informative watch! @Jose Carias @Eloi Major @Christian Guera @Akash Das.
3. DIY Air Quality Monitor
Air Quality Boards from Adafruit
A platform to record and display your project's data (little programming is required!)
A programming language to code on low-cost microcontroller boards (beginner friendly!)
We are using 3D-printed silo sensors to monitor air quality in San Diego.
