The Red Panda or Ailurus Fulgens is a relatively smaller creature native to the Eastern Himalayas and have been placed in their own animal family group known as the Ailuridae. While red pandas are an endangered species, they are legally protected in China, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and India. Their main threats are habitat loss, poaching, and other human interferences which has dwindled their population to about 10,000. Red pandas are critical to their natural environment as the bamboo they feed on can start to overgrow in their absence, negatively affecting the growth of other plants in the forest. Furthermore, their extinction would impact the survival of their predators as they rely on them for their own survival as well.
