Hey there! Did you know that every single day, as many as 2,000 garbage trucks worth of plastic get dumped into our oceans, rivers, and lakes? Can you imagine that? And guess what that means there are 50 - 75 trillion tons of plastic in the ocean already!
Now here is something else, plastics never actually break down, they just break up into smaller pieces called microplastics.
The seafood that we eat may contain microplastics and when we eat microplastics. That's right, they can end up in our food! Yuck! This is not good because these tiny pieces can absorb harmful chemicals. So if we eat them, it could cause health problems for both animals and humans.
Many animals get confused by plastic and think it's food! For example turtles try to find food they may mistake plastic as a jellyfish and eat it. This can cause blockages inside their bodies and make them really ill.
Did you know that most types of plastic are made from oil and chemicals? It's true! According to the UNEP (that's the United Nations Environment Programme), about 400 million tons of plastic are produced every year. That's a huge amount! And guess what? By the year 2050, it's estimated that the amount of plastic will triple, causing even more damage to nature.
Here's another interesting fact: scientists say that plastics are responsible for about 4.5% of the world's greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are bad for the environment and contribute to climate change.
So, it's really important for us to think about how we use plastic and find ways to reduce it. We need to take care of our planet and keep our oceans, rivers, and lakes clean and safe for all the animals that live there, including ourselves!
More than 100 million animals are affected by plastic pollution. That includes birds, fish and coral.

The 3 most common ways to throw away plastic waste are recycling, incineration, and landfills.
Recycling is good for the environment as it gives plastic a second life and so on but, many materials can't be recycled like Wax cardboard, and styrofoam. Wax cardboard is a multilayered cardboard coated with Plastic.

Did you know that only 9% of World wide Plastic is recycled?
Did you know that, every day the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks dump plastic into oceans, rivers, and lakes? That means there are 50 - 75 trillion tons of plastic in the ocean!
