We’re open Tuesdays & Thursdays 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm. While no firearms are on display, you can explore our factory history and General Machine Shop.
By visiting now, you’re helping us rebuild and bring the Museum back to its full potential.
There are several ways to support the Museum. Talk about the Museum with friends and family, follow us on Facebook and share our stories online, or volunteer your skills and expertise. You can also write to your local MP and Lithgow Council to tell them how much the Museum matters.
While we continue to fight for the museum’s future, we’ve faced heavy costs for security and upgrades to protect the collection. Your donation will support our efforts to secure a future for the museum.

The Museum is currently being rebuilt following a break-in in August 2024 which caused substantial damage to the Museum and the removal of our firearms displays.
Ongoing challenges with our landlord have placed our future at great risk. The entire site is integral to the museum - it’s not just our home but part of the story we preserve. This history and its legacy belong to all Australians, and it’s vital the museum stays on its site to honour and protect that connection. Your support helps us give this museum the future it deserves.
Donations, at this stage, will be used for the security upgrades, rebuilding the Museum, and completing the display upgrades we were partway through before the disruption.
With site ownership, we aim to reopen bigger and better, with plans for an onsite cafe and community venue in the old Factory canteen, and a new initiative to develop an adjunct "Australian Firearms History Centre" to cater for researchers, law enforcement agencies, and enthusiasts.
Our firearms are temporarily off display following a break-in in August 2024. To meet safety requirements, we need to complete security upgrades before they can be shown again. Some work has already been done, and we’re applying to the Firearms Registry to display at least antique and obsolete-calibre firearms.
Progress is currently stalled because our landlord won’t allow further work until we sign their lease/license. Years of experience have shown that we cannot operate under their conditions, and we are seeking to have the buildings officially transferred to the Museum, as previously promised - giving it a secure site to survive in the short term and the ability to grow to its full potential for the future.
We can’t say exactly when the firearms will return, but we are working towards it and hope it will be in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, we’re using this time to enhance other areas of the Museum, creating new displays and experiences for visitors to enjoy.
