We expect the Planning Commission to evaluate this project in June. However, the developer has stalled the project multiple times.
Lawrence Public Library is partnering with Haskell Indian Nations University and Raven Book Store to offer this celebration of the wetlands. Daniel Wildcat and more local authors and artists will share connections of their creative work to the wetlands, Haskell, and more of the outside world, a sense of place, and community. We encourage everyone in our community to join us outside on the beautiful campus at Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday, April 18, 9 AM at the Medicine Wheel Earthwork; if there is inclement weather, the event will be held on April 25.
Volunteer to help with restoration in the Historic Wakarusa Wetlands with the Haskell Greenhouse.
Join Native Lands Restoration Collaborative in land restoration in Lawrence and Douglas County.
Reach out to btaylor-mckown@bakeru.edu to be added to the wetland stewardship group for volunteer workdays!
There are no future dates for any items before the City at this time. We know that the Comprehensive Plan Amendment will go before City Commission before mid-May and there is a high probability that the plat and rezonings will be on the May Planning agenda. We apologize profusely, it seems these items keep being deferred by the developer, making pinpointing a date difficult.
(NOTE: Change.org will ask for a donation, this does NOT go to us! Do not donate unless you want to donate directly to Change.org)
In addition to signing the petition, we encourage all individuals to send public comments to both Commissions. The general comment email for the Planning Department is planning@lawrenceks.org. Additionally, it can also be helpful to submit general public comment to the City Commission before it appears on their agenda. The email for the City Commissioners general comment is commissioners@lawrenceks.org.
