The SAVE Task Force was created to assess Berkley’s financial condition and identify sustainable paths forward. While its initial work focuses on recommendations, its role should not end there.
Moving forward, the Task Force will:
Conduct periodic check-ins on progress toward recommendations
Provide updates and summaries to the public
Support long-term planning discussions
Help ensure continuity as leadership or conditions change
This creates a layer of consistency and long-term oversight.
Defined Checkpoints & Milestones
To ensure progress is measurable, SAVE will establish clear checkpoints:
Years 1–2:
Semiannual updates at Town Meeting to review and assess progress and accountability.
Years 3–5:
Annual updates at Town Meeting aligned with the budget cycle.
5-Year Commitment:
Track financial and operational progress over time and keep residents informed.
These checkpoints ensure plans translate into real, measurable outcomes.
Recognizing Uncertainty
While careful planning is essential, not all variables can be controlled.
Future conditions may be influenced by:
Changes in state aid
Economic shifts
Unanticipated capital or emergency costs
Regional and demographic changes
Acknowledging this uncertainty reinforces the importance of flexibility and ongoing review.
Our Commitment
Berkley’s path forward depends on consistent attention, honest evaluation, and shared responsibility.
While we cannot predict every future challenge, we can commit to:
Transparent communication
Data-informed decision-making
Regular evaluation of progress
Long-term thinking over short-term fixes
Sustainability is not a single action — it is a commitment to continuously aligning the Town’s resources, operations, and priorities with the needs of its community.
