Hi everyone!
My name is Sarrah Hussain and I am a rising high school 12th grader. I created this website after witnessing and hearing about the lack of resources and technology in Sri Lankan hospitals that is negatively impacting many patients from receiving the quality of care they deserve.
Sri Lanka is a developing island off Southern India that can really benefit from your help. Currently, I am trying to raise funds for circular and contour staplers (each stapler costs about $750) which will be used in Colostomy Reversal Procedures. Many patients worldwide are forced to have colostomies due to colon cancer or other issues with the lower bowel. A colostomy is a surgical procedure that systematically changes the human body by connecting the large intestine to the abdomen in order to provide a new path for waste material to exit the body. This means that these patients must have a colostomy bag constantly attached to their bowel in order to collect any waste material.
Once the colon and lower bowel issues have been dealt with, patients typically undergo a colostomy reversal procedure. This is when circular and contour staplers are required, however many patients are unable to afford these resources and are thus forced to live with a colostomy bag for the rest of their lives. We would like to ensure that this does not happen, because the colostomy bag creates a large strain on the individual.
If you would like to read specific patient's stories and how they would benefit, please visit the "Stories" page.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about this issue and continuing to spread the word.
