Imagine that you own a franchise of a national burger chain called, “Red, White, and Beef Burgers.” Because you are a franchisee, you are bound to the Corporate Office rules, and you have just received a letter from them about changes in the current menu. Two alternatives from the menu will be discontinued no later then 2 months.

1) An email must be sent to a customer that is a regular asking for feedback on the change. 2) A memo to the staff letting them know they will be working on Sunday for the open house. 3) A memo to be put outside the restaurant letting customers know about the open house. 4) a letter to the VP communicating the customers feedback.

Dear Ms. Garza

Recently at Red, White and Beef Burgers the cooperate office has made some slight changes to the menu. Due to the increase in raw product prices, it looks like the vegan options that we have, which are, the black bean burger and the turkey burger. Will be discontinued two months from today.

I apologize for the inconvenience and how this may affect you as our customer. Additionally, we are holding an open house on Sunday for customers to voice their opinion, or you can reply through email. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Good afternoon my wonderful staff, yesterday I got word from cooperate that there will be changes in the menu. Elimination of the black bean burger and the turkey burger. This is due to the increase in raw product prices. Not only are we going to be affected by this change but so are our customers, and cooperate is fully aware of that. In turn, this Sunday I will need all hands-on deck. The open house will be dedicated to getting our customers opinions on the change and how they personally be affected by it. After we gather feedback, I will then send a letter to the VP of cooperate relations, Ms. Valeria Manzo, explaining how our customers feel about this change. I’m apologize for the sudden change and if you cannot make it on Sunday, I will try my best to work with your schedule.

Dear Ms. Manzo, With the open house we conducted on Sunday, I was able to understand that some of our customers have mixed emotions to removing the black bean burger and the turkey burger. People really enjoy those options. They feel that it’s a better alternative for them opposed to our regular meat products. Furthermore, I was able to reach a middle ground with our customers.

An alternative that was mentioned quite a bit was adding salads to the menu, a variety that contain fruit, nuts, Southwest, or/and Caesar salads.

This location does get quite a few customers that would like that alternative, so all I ask is to keep that in mind for future menu changes.

This assignment was really helpful and make me realize that there are different levels to professionalism. I think it's important to shift your words depending who you are communicating with to better conform the situation. This unit taught me how to write memos, emails, and letters.
