SATREPS-MARTEST Symposium 2025
The first symposium of the SATREPS-MARTEST project was held in GTU Congress Center on September 12th, 2025.
3rd JCC meeting & MARTEST center opening ceremony 11th September
JICA, JST, GTU and many partners joined in the 3rd JCC at Gebze Technical University. Each WG progress were shared and future activities were discussed.
MARTEST center facility construction was completed.
WG1 Having a contract with TDG for the shaking table procurement
The JICA Turkiye Office has signed a contract with TDG Corporation for the installation of a state-of-the-art shaking table at the MARTEST Center, GTU.
In the coming months, TDG, JICA, and GTU will hold regular consultations to ensure smooth progress toward the implementation of this project. The shaking table is scheduled to be delivered and installed at the MARTEST Center in one year.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the Center’s capacity for research and practical applications in earthquake engineering and disaster-resilient structures.
WG4 Disaster Imagination Games on Business Continuity Plan for SAMM 25th June 2025
WG4 Prof. Kaneda and Prof. Isouchi visited SAMM facilities in GOSB. We conducted DIG workshop with them. This DIG focused on MARMARA earthquake, SAMM recognized their resilience and weakness through the DIG training.
WG3 OBS member joined the OBS observation 16th - 21st June 2025
WG3 OBS team joined OBS deployment. At the same time, they collected the data of extensometer around North Anatolian fault line to observe the earthquake effect of 2025 April earthquake.
WG2 Yalova/Kadikoy photo shooting for VR/AR evacuation and meeting with AFAD , 10th - 15th June 2025
WG2 Prof. Arikawa and his students conducted photo shooting in Kadikoy and Yalova for VR/AR evacuation training. They also visited Ankara to have a meeting with AFAD and METU 12th and 13th June.
Disaster Educational workshop and interview at Yalova municipalty, 24th - 27th February 2025
WG4 Educational material team conducted Disaster preparedness workshop at GTU and surveyed 1999 Izmit earthquake evacuation approach at Yalova municipal government.
Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) training , 17th - 19th February 2025
Dr. Zhang Ji from University of Tokyo introduced DAS analysis and research cases 17th to 19th February. Participants were GTU researchers, AFAD personnel, IGDAS, KOERI and a private company.
Kahramanmaraş Earthqaukes second year anniversary of in Yalova, 6 February 2025
Drs. Ceren Özer Sözdinler and Ahmet Anıl Dindar, and JICA Coordinator Sho Amemiya attended the second year anniversary of Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes in Yalova.
Drs. Özer Sözdinler and Dindar gave talks about the SATREPS-MARTEST project and briefed the attendeed about the activities. The talks were aired live over YouTube which can be viewed in the given link.

DAS poster presentation at AGU, December 2024
Dr. Zhang, the member of MARTEST project from University of Tokyo, presented DAS research poster at AGU 2024. Dr. Ahmet from GTU is a part of the authors.

Prof.Dr. Erol Özvar who is the head of Turkish Higer Education Council posted the details of MARTEST project and the activities of WG3 in Twitter account.
OBS oepration and data analyze training September 27th and 30th, 2024
KOERI had trainings of OBS operation including recovery and deployment, and OBS data analyze. There are many interesting data in OBS. The research result will be published soon.
OBS recovery on September 23rd , 2024
Ocean Bottom Seismometers (OBS) came back on land after a year from September 2023. KOERI, which is the member of MARTEST, lead the activity.

An important visit to DAS Server on July 13th, 2024
An important site visit was paid to DAS server utilized in Turk Telekom Darıca Telecommunication Facility to discuss the preliminary outcomes as part of WG3.

SAMM Techonology from Gebze Organized Industrial Zone was selected as the case study for Business Continuity Plan in early 2024. WG4 members visited SAMM technology for kick-off talk on BCP.
WG4 group members visited Yalova Governor, Mayor on July 11th, 2024
Yalova province center was selected as the target area for District Continuity Plan study (DCP) of WG4. The WG4 members visited the Yalova Provice Governor Dr. Hülya Kaya and Yalova Municipality Mayor Mehmet Gürel.
Following the visits, WG4 members attended the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction plan meeting.

Japan visit for 2nd JCC, JpGU prensentation and investigations in May 21st - 30th
The 2nd JCC was held in May 23rd, and MARTEST project activies were presented at JpGU 2024. The MARTEST member visited Noto earthquake affected area and a shaking table in Japan.

Prof. Hibino from Nagoya University, Prof. Maida from University of Tokyo, and Dr. Aoki from National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) visited GTU to talk and have lecture on the shaking table.
In-SAR training on 15th - 18th January, 2024
In-SAR training was lectured by Prof. Aoki of University of Tokyo. The lectures measured earthquake change on Kahramanmaraş in 2023 and on Noto in 2024 in Japan with In-SAR knowledge.

International Resilience and Resistance Congress (11-13 October 2023)
SATREPS-MARTEST project was presented in IDRC2023 congress (https://idrcongress.org/en/).
GTU visited Turk-Japan University on October 11th, 2023.
The OBSs were again installed on the seabed on September 15, 2023. These OBSs were provided by Japan in the past SATREPS projects conducted in 2013-2018, and Japanese engineers have continuously visited Turkey to provide technical support until now. The OBS that was reinstalled this time was collected from the seabed in 2020-2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japanese engineers had been unable to travel to Turkey until recently. The data collection and reinstallation were finally completed this time. The OBSs installed this time are scheduled to be recovered again in one to two years.
