Phonetician |

Forensic Speech Scientist

about me

I am a phonetician specialising in forensic speech science. My expertise lies in speaker comparisons, speaker profiling, and especially earwitness testimony. I submitted my PhD thesis in September 2023, which focused on novel methods for assessing the reliability of earwitness testimony.

Currently, I am working on developing new screening protocols to evaluate potential earwitnesses. My goal is to improve the accuracy and validity of voice identifications made in legal contexts.

More broadly, my research aims to elucidate individual differences in how people process and store voices in their memory. This encompasses neurological, cognitive, and linguistic factors that may impact one's ability to reliably recognise familiar and unfamiliar voices. I utilise tools from phonetics, linguistics, and psychology to address these complex questions at the intersection of speech science and law.
