"Who is this guy?" Well, I am a lot! But mostly, I am on my way to become an English and Chinese teacher at a German High School. And yep, I can speak Chinese fluently. Yep, I can also write Chinese. And yep, I can pronounce all the tones necessary to converse in Chinese.
Before you ask, I fell in love with the Chinese language during my time as a volunteer as part of the weltwärts program (a German government-sponsored endeavour that sends people into different countries in the Global South) in 2016-2017. I spent a year in Pu'er, Yunnan in the very South of the People's Republlic of China and taught English and German at a local university. I spent a second year in China during my undergraduate studies. This time, I went to the north, to Lanzhou. You might have heard about this place because it is the birthplace of 兰州拉面 (Lánzhōu Lāmiàn) - pulled noodles, in a way related to Ramen.
Well, I am not all about that Chinese, I also have a passion for the English language! So I spent one year as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) under the auspices of the FUlbright Program at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN. Here, I taught German, took quite a few classes, sung, acted, planned events and did whatever else I could think to become immersed in the experience of a small, all-male liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere.
