Competitions

At SFSC, skaters have exciting opportunities to participate in figure skating competitions throughout Minnesota as part of the Central Minnesota Compete USA Series or the Excel Series. These events provide a fun and supportive environment for skaters to showcase their skills, set goals, and gain valuable competitive experience. SFSC also offers opportunities to compete in select out-of-state competitions each year.

Competition is open to skaters of all levels. To participate, skaters must work with a private coach, who will provide instruction, prepare programs, and offer guidance throughout the competition experience.

Central Minnesota Compete USA Competition Series

The Central Minnesota Compete USA Series takes place each year from January through March, with competitions hosted in St. Cloud, Willmar, Fergus Falls, Brainerd, Duluth, New Ulm, and Alexandria.

This Learn to Skate USA-approved series gives beginning skaters the opportunity to participate in individual competitions hosted by clubs throughout Central Minnesota while earning points toward the overall series standings.

At each competition, skaters receive placement awards based on their performance. At the conclusion of the series, participants are recognized during the final competition in Alexandria for their overall placement in the Central Minnesota Compete USA Series.

The purpose of the series is to provide a fun, welcoming, and introductory competitive experience that encourages skill development, confidence, and a lifelong enjoyment of figure skating for beginning skaters.

Excel Series Competition

The Excel Series runs annually from January 1 through June 30 and is part of the U.S. Figure Skating Excel Program. Designed for singles skaters competing in Aspire through Senior levels, the series provides a structured, season-long competitive pathway that promotes technical development, familiarity with the International Judging System (IJS/CJS), and progressive competitive opportunities.

Skaters earn points by participating in designated Excel Series competitions throughout the season. At the conclusion of the series, overall standings are determined based on points earned, and qualifying skaters have the opportunity to advance to the Excel National Festival and Excel Series Final, held each July.

The purpose of the Excel Series is to provide meaningful competitive experiences that encourage skill progression, build confidence, and prepare skaters for continued success within U.S. Figure Skating's competitive pathway.

SFSC Holiday Exhibition Show

Each year, SFSC hosts its annual Holiday Exhibition Show between late November and early December. This fun, non-competitive event gives skaters the opportunity to perform for family, friends, and the community.

Participants may create their own routine or work with a coach to develop choreography. Skaters can choose to perform a solo, duet, or group number, showcasing their skills and creativity in a festive performance.

The Holiday Exhibition Show is open to all skaters who are members of a skating club. A participation fee applies for each skater.

SFSC Annual Spring Show

Each year, SFSC presents its Annual Spring Show, celebrating the accomplishments and progress of our skaters throughout the season. This exciting event gives skaters the opportunity to showcase the skills they have developed while entertaining family, friends, and the community.

The Annual Spring Show typically features three performances over two days, usually on Friday and Saturday. The show includes a variety of performances, including solos, duets, trios, feature numbers, and group routines.

All current SFSC members are invited to participate, making this a wonderful opportunity for skaters of all ages and levels to perform. The Annual Spring Show is a highlight of the season, bringing together our skating community for a fun-filled weekend of entertainment, celebration, and unforgettable performances
