1948 Sardis Cleanup

Following the closure of the Sardis M. E. Church, the Sardis Cemetery was abandoned. In July 1948, Herbie "Andy" Andrews (of Polk Station) noted the conditions of the Sardis Cemetery, and led a group of about 30 people (including the former Polk Community Club) to clean up the cemetery. The group had intentions to continue the maintenance of this cemetery, but these plans fell through within a year, and by the end of the 1940s, Sardis had once again become overgrown.

Below are the three notices I could find in the Union City Daily Messenger regarding the 1948 cleanup of the Sardis Cemetery.
