Most of my free time (or most of my time, as some would say) is devoted to football (soccer). I play mostly recreationally and watch a lot of games. I have also written small pieces in the past, mostly in Bengali on several topics in sports. Here is a link to one of the latest ones on the topic of the retirement of Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri in Monobithi Autumn 2024. Football is perhaps my answer to the question - "What keeps you sane ?". So, if you ever hppen to meet me anywhere, a conversation about football is always welcome.
I also occasionally watch cricket and tennis, and have played quite a bit of cricket growing up.
The world of art has been a recent venture, and I have been mesmerized by the beauty of paintings from around the impressionist era, most notably the ones by Monet and Renoir. Haystacks and Water Lilies by Monet are among my favourite series of paintings. Below is a picture of Water-Lilies, Setting sun, which is probably the one I like the most in the series.
I have developed some fondness for Hokusai, who is perhaps best known for his famous series of woodblock prints - 36 views of Mount Fuji. I was quite pleasantly surprised to learn that Monet was an avid collector of Japanese art and was influenced by them. The Minneapolis Institute of Art once had an exhibition on this.
