Saratoga Mustangs Rugby

Saratoga Youth Rugby runs five different inclusive teams (two flag and three contact).  The crossover ages exist so staff can determine a player's placement based on physical maturity, skills, and ability/experience.  These teams run spring and fall

• Youth Flag/Touch Rugby 

  • Players aged 5-8 play flag rugby

  • Players aged aged 9-12 play "2 hand touch" or "touch rugby"

  • We play teams from Albany and Glens Falls and games rotate between our home field at Shenantaha Creek Park in Ballston Spa, Dick Green Field in Albany, and Hudson River Park in Glens Falls (see Field Locations for maps links)

• Middle & High School Contact Rugby

  • MS starts modified contact at age groups 11-12 and 13-14

  • HS is full contact at ages 14-19 with JV and Varsity teams 

  • Middle & HS teams are competitive contact rugby and run as a county wide travel teams as we don't have any other teams in our area to play against.

    • Until teams are established in surrounding counties, any school aged student is welcome to play with Saratoga. 

    • Our goal is to help the other counties reform teams so we once again have a full Capital District Youth Rugby (CDYR) league as we did from 2007-2018.  

    • If you are interested in help getting rugby started in your area (Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and/or Warren Counties), please don't hesitate to reach out and we will support you as much as we can!
