Rick Babson
Rick started playing in 2000 at Albany Law School until 2003. He p layed for the Albany Knicks from 2003 to 2005 and then started playing with Saratoga in 2005. Rick became the assistant coach the Saratoga Mustangs girls team in 2007 and became head coach in 2013. Rick served as the head coach for Siena College Woman's team 2022-23. Rick is the program coordinator for flag/two hand touch program and current head coach for the Saratoga Women's Team (adult league).
Chip Derrick
Chip Derrick played competitive rugby SUNY Albany and Syracuse University, as well as in law school before he suited up for the Saratoga Stampede Men's Team for five years. A former member of the NYCPD, he is a a force behind Saratoga Rugby Inc.'s fundraising and administrative efforts. Chip works witrh the flag program, most often with the 5-7 year old age group.
Jake Russell
Jake Russell is a Saratoga Mustangs Alum who continued his career with the Saratoga Calvary Men's Team and is an activbe player for them currently. He started coaching the Mustangs as a way to give back starting in the spring of 2024. Jake works with all levels of Saratoga Mustangs Rugby, from flag up to ful contact, as needed.

Pete is a founder of both the Saratoga Men's Team (2006) and the Mustangs High School Teams (2007) . After playing college rugby @ Union College, including playing one season abroad in China, Pete played for the SRFC Stampede from its inception in 2006 until 2011, serving several years as vice-president and team captain and was a two time team MVP. Pete coached the Saratoga Mustangs High School Girls from 2007-2013 and coached Saratoga's flag rugby from 2016-2022. He served as the head coach of the U14 team in 2023 and 2024 and is the current head coach for the HS Mustangs boys and grils squads.
Tony brings west coast and southeast experience to the Saratoga team. He competed at the Division II level for Fresno RFC (2000-01), and Division I level for Norfolk RFC (2004-2009), after Junior Pelican Team play (California High School All-Stars 1997-1998). Tony coached Saratoga's flag rugby from 2018-2023 and moved into the middle school modified contact coaching role in the fall of 2023. He works with both the 12U and 14U teams.
Taylor Russell is a Saratoga Mustangs Alum who continued his career with the Saratoga Calvary Men's Team and started coaching the Mustangs as a way to give back starting in the spring of 2024. He works with both the 12U and 14U teams and assists with the HS team.
Lexa Beaudoin
High School Assistant Coach
Lexa began her rugby career as a member of the Saratoga Mustangs Girls HS team, where she played for four years (2010-2013), eventually serving as team captain. Lexa moved into coaching in 2015 as an assistant coach and worked with the Mustangs Girls HS team until COVID-19 shut the team down. She returned in 2023 to serve as assistant coach of the U12 and U14 teams and will be a roving assistant coach, specializing in line play. She currently plays for the Saratoga Fillies Women's Rugby Club,.
Greg Urstadt
High School Assistant Coach
Greg's experience coaching other youth sports naturally sparked his interest in rugby, having watched his own son play the game. He began his rugby coaching career in the spring of 2026 as the HS boys assistant coach, and brings another positive approach to improve the athleticism of the team.
