Stop, Think, and Innovate
(Sara Savastano, "Yellow Writing Block", 2003 onward)
I am an economist and professor with extensive experience in development, agricultural, and food economics. My professional journey began in academia, where I built a foundation in rigorous research and teaching. This path later led me to key roles in international organizations like the World Bank, FAO, and IFAD.
These experiences provided a crucial insight: there's a significant gap between scientific research and its application in policy. I learned the critical importance of bridging the divide between research and operational teams, and translating complex data and evidence into actionable solutions for policymakers and decision-makers. My career has since been dedicated to this purpose.
This experience has instilled in me a core philosophy: "Stop, Think, and Innovate." I am passionate about developing cost-effective, data-driven solutions and building the capacity of professionals at all levels. I build strong partnerships and network to generate and share knowledge, improve visibility and reputation.
Throughout my career, I've championed mentorship and "job dating" events. I organize working and networking opportunities where students can connect with international experts, laying the groundwork for internships, short consultancies, and expanding their professional networks.
Today, in September 2025, I'm back at the university with a clear mission: to train the next generation of economists and professionals. By equipping them with rigorous, evidence-based tools, I aim to enhance their skills for solving real-world problems, informing policy, and driving meaningful job creation.
