The first love is never forgotten. The study of tectonic rotations is how I started my career both as paleomagnetist and structural geologist.
I started basically in my backyard, studying the Gran Sasso range in the Apennines.
Paleomagnetism, combined with structural geology, is a powerful tool in discriminating primary or secondary arcs and understanding the kinematics of curved orogens. Detailed sampling of minor structures of the Apennines allowed defining the strong influence of the pre-orogenic structures on the shape of the orogenic belt.
