The Spartan Sound is the marching band at Saraland High School and our most visible group that performs at all football games, pep rallies, and community events. Pep bands consisting of students from the Spartan Sound will regularly perform at special events in the Mobile area as well as other sporting events such as basketball and volleyball. The Spartan Sound consists of all wind, percussion, and color guard students ranging from 9th-12th grade. In this ensemble, students are presented with the unique challenge of taking their skills from Concert Band and putting them to the move in an outdoor setting. The Spartan Sound plays a variety of music encompassing popular music and modern arrangements of timeless music that the entire crowd can recognize and enjoy. The Concert Band at Saraland High School is our premiere performing ensemble consisting of all high school wind and percussion students from 9th to 12th grade. We perform music ranging from classical to twentieth century and program a number of pieces for modern ensemble as well. In this ensemble, students will learn fundamental performance techniques for their instruments as well as how to listen and perform in a group setting. The Spartan Jazz Ensemble is made up of several students who are interested in exploring the jazz genre of music. Membership in the ensemble is open to all who wish to participate, and the group rehearses both during and after school. Students perform modern popular music as well as classic jazz charts, and have performed at school and community events. The Spartan Jazz Ensemble students also study music theory, and work in class to improve basic fundamentals of jazz music. The ensemble is comprised of wind and rhythm students ranging from 9th-12th grade, and are placed with a small placement audition for parts that usually rotate. Saraland Indoor Percussion is currently in its 6th season. Since its beginning in 2013, S.I.P.E has performed music by Ray Flores, Visaudio, John Willmarth, Edward Freytag, Kennan Wylie, Jim Casella and an original work by Chase Davidson. The ensemble is a member of the Gulf Coast Guard and Percussion Circuit in Pensacola, Florida. They travel throughout southern Alabama, Mississippi, and northwest Florida. S.I.P.E. has finished 1st in their class for four out of the past five years. This group brings energy and excitement to percussive music and continues to grow in skill, technique, and musicianship! The group is directed by Mr. Chase Davidson.
