Good morning! I hope this update finds you all well! We've got some important updates to push out, so I've attached Mr. Davidson's email below. Please check it out as soon as possible! Thanks, and a Happy Thanksgiving Break to all of you!
Parents/Supporters:
I hope this email finds you all doing well. This week is a busy one leading up to thanksgiving break. We will have lessons this week and the schedule can be found below. Jazz band will have rehearsal on Tuesday until 4:15 and concert band, which includes all winds and percussion will have rehearsal on Thursday until 4:15. This rehearsal is in preparation for our Christmas Concert on December 10, 2019. The concert will be held at SHS Performing Arts Center at 6:30 PM. You can find all of this and more in the google calendar. There is a link for the calendar in the reminder of this email.
**On Thursday, November 20, 2019, we will be giving the concession stand a final cleaning since we are finished with football. We will meet at the Stadium Concession stand at 5PM to begin cleaning things. It shouldn't take long if we have plenty of help. Thanks for your help on this.
***Alabama/Auburn Gear was finally delivered today and though it looked to be completed orders, it was not. I know that some people have incomplete orders and I will contact the company to fix it. Please do not try to contact them yourself. There were some back ordered things from the original manufacturer and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th party have been the ones to suffer for it. If you are missing an item or something is incorrect, please send your students original order form back to the school with the incorrect item(if applicable) and I will get it corrected. I do know that this fundraiser has put a bad taste in peoples mouth, as it has made me dislike the company as well but they have been wonderful to work with in the past and I'm sure that they will correct their mistakes. I will correct the orders asap.
****Alabama Candle Fund Raiser has been an absolute hit! Tons of sales and those orders should be delivered in a timely manner because they are produced here in the state of Alabama.
Private Group lessons begin today and will take place every other week. The schedule for these lessons is below. We tried to make all lessons fit within school hours but some students may be required to stay after school until 3 pm on their lesson day in order to receive the full hour of instruction. These lessons are free to the students but are not free to our program. We pay these instructors well, so please allow your student to attend the lessons. Thank you!
As you all know, the band is taking a trip in April of 2020 this year to Universal Studios and will be participating in the Universal STARS Music Tour inside the parks. The Third $100 per person payment is due on November 5th at the Parent/Booster Meeting. Students will receive account balances on Tuesday at the parent meeting. If you are behind on payments, please make sure that you have 3 of the $100 payments in before thanksgiving break. Thank you! The Trip Breakdown and payment plan is attached to this email and each of the posted payment dates are scheduled for our monthly Parent/Booster Meetings, so please don't miss them. Students are currently selling Rally Towels around campus to raise money for their trip. Towels are $5 each and the students make 50% profit on their sales. Alabama/Auburn Fundraiser gear should be in soon. Some things were on back order and that is why it has taken so long to be delivered.
You can find an attached schedule list that you can hang on your refrigerator and you can also download the google calendar app and sync it to the Spartan Sound Calendar by following the directions HERE! While you are there, be sure to check out the new Saraland Sound Website. This site covers all of the Saraland Sound Ensembles including marching band, concert band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, winter guard, and more to come! Also, check out the new Saraland Sound Facebook page. This page will cover everything that the students do within the program just like the Saralandsound.org website.
We are slowly transitioning into Concert Band, Indoor Percussion, Winter Guard, and Jazz Band Seasons. Please encourage your students to continue practicing and to keep "BRINGING IT". It is a pleasure to stand in front of them each day! Looking forward to their continued progress!

*Band Night have to be postponed to a later date. We do not have another regular season home game, however, we are likely to host a home Playoff Game on November 8, 2019. I do apologize to alumni and SMS band for this changed but it the best we can do scheduling wise. With that being said, if you would still like to sign up for Alumni and Band night, You can still register on the Saraland Sound FB page until Wednesday, October 30 and we will look forward to seeing everyone on November 8, 2019. Bring the $20 on the day of the event. The same schedule will apply to that day as well.
**Senior Night is still on! Parents and Senior Band Members will report to the stadium at 5:45 to line up at 6PM for Senior Night Festivities. There will be no pregame performance due to senior night happening during that time. The Spartan Sound will perform their 2019 Halftime show for halftime tomorrow night.
***CONCESSIONS is in need of all hands on deck! If you can come and help with concession tomorrow night, PLEASE DO SO! With this change, it is a ton of work to pull off a day early. We will not be able to pass out badges for those who are working. You will need to report to the far right gate and let them know you are working concessions and give them your name.
**** THANKS To EVERYONE for understanding the situation. The schedule change is due to severe weather that is making its way in on Friday and this is what is best for the safety of the students and community supporters.

If you are unable to pay the September payment of $100 or if you are selling AL/AU Gear to cover fees, please wait until next week to make the first payment on the trip so that you know your balance after the fundraiser is complete.
THANK YOU to everyone that volunteered to work in the concession stand for the Daphne game. It was Hot and Busy but your work helped us raise enough funds to help pay for transportation to our contest in Opelika in October. The concession stand proceeds help us keep the cost of marching band low so that students can be involved in the program. We need each parent to volunteer to work at least one Home Varsity Game during the season. If everyone will do their part, it will be an easy season. Again, this is a vital part of our program's success and we need your help! You may sign up for Concessions HERE! We will pass out badges for workers at our Thursday afternoon rehearsals. These badges will get you free parking and entry into the game. We will need approximately 30 people per home varsity game to work concessions. While working, you will have the best view of the game and halftime on the TVs that are located inside the concession stand. Also, people who work concessions are the first to be allowed to ride the bus to away games with the band as chaperones.
Our fall schedule is packed as usual and we are excited about what the group is going to achieve this year. This page will cover everything that the students do within the program just like the Saralandsound.org website. be sure to check out the wonderful photos that Todd Stacey took for us this past week. He is truly and talented guy and great to work with. You can order prints from him at low cost.

We are hosting District VII All-State auditions right here at Saraland High School! All students have been asked to sign up for a time to come help. The slots are morning, afternoon, and tear down. Please sign up for one or more of these slots! We will absolutely sign off on service hours for this! Students can sign up in the band room: the sign up sheet is attached to the whiteboard. Thanks!
We are very excited to launch the new website via Google sites! This will be a one stop shop for all things band related at Saraland High School. We are looking forward to being able to have a functional site to give our students access to more resources! More to come soon.
I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season! We are very excited to get the semester rolling and have fun things in store for the concert band, jazz ensemble, indoor percussion ensemble, and the entire Sound as a whole! I am copying Mr. Davidson's greeting email/Facebook message below. Please give it a read! As always, Go Sound!
Ladies and Gentlemen:
HAPPY NEW YEAR! It has been a while since my last email due to a very busy Fall Marching Band season! You all have done a wonderful job of staying up to date via the Google Band Calendar, Facebook, Band App, and Remind 101.
This Message is to remind everyone of the upcoming Booster/Parent Meeting that will be held on January 8, 2019 at 6PM in the Band Room. We will be discussing Alabama All-State Auditions, Private Lessons, Spring Events, Schedules, Fundraisers, and... possible Trips in the future! That's right, some exciting times for the Spartan Sound!
I wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your hard work last semester! In my six years with the Spartan Sound, it was definitely the longest marathon semester we have had. You didn't back down from any of the challenges and pushed through to the end. I am so thankful to work with such wonderful parents, supporters, staff, and especially students! Also, thank you for leaving the band room is such pristine condition before Christmas Break, even in the absence of directors. You guys are the best, seriously!
I hope that you have all had a restful couple of weeks! I know that the staff is really excited to get back to work with you all! Looking forward to doing some new things with you and I believe that you will enjoy them as well! We also hope that you have been playing your instrument during the break. If you haven't, it is not too late. You still have time to get your chops back in shape, but please don't wait any longer. Private Lessons during school and after school will begin on Monday and continue throughout the week, so check out the google calendar for that as well! Every Section will receive private lessons! A great philosopher of our time once said "The Time Is Now" Hope to see all students on Monday and EVERYONE on Tuesday(Meeting at 6PM)!
